NAKHON RATCHASIMA - The Sikhiu Provincial Court yesterday sentenced a gunman in the Farut Thaised murder case to 20 years in jail.
The court found Mun Poolsap, a 41-year-old from Ratchaburi, guilty of shooting Farut Thaised, the son of Chartthaipattana Party MP for Uthai Thani Chada Thaised.
Farut was shot dead on Aug 20 last year while driving a Toyota Prado on Nakhon Ratchasima's Khao Yai-Wang Nam Khieo road in Pak Chong district.
The court reduced the sentence to 14 years because Mun confessed.
The court also handed down a six-year jail term to Suriya Thaised, Chada's nephew.
Suriya was a passenger in Farut's vehicle during an exchange of gunfire, reportedly sparked by a road rage incident, between the occupants of Farut's vehicle and the Toyota pickup truck that Mun was in.
Suriya was charged with attempted murder, illegal possession of a gun and shooting in a public area and convicted of shooting at the pickup truck during the gunfight.
Mun and Suriya both both said they will appeal.
