Govt takes exhibition flak

The Democrat Party yesterday blasted the government for commissioning the son of the prime minister's chief adviser to organise a 15-million-baht exhibition to promote its infrastructure investment programme.

During the debate on the bill to borrow 2 trillion baht to finance infrastructure development projects, Democrat list-MP Boonyod Sooktinthai said the government had already spent about 15 million baht from the budget of the Thailand Creative & Design Centre publicising the massive investment scheme.

Boonyod: ‘Wip was wrong man for job’

Mr Boonyod said the government had commissioned Wip Vinyaratn and his team to organise the "Thailand 2020" exhibition between March 8-16 to promote the 2-trillion-baht investment programme and to outline details on the high-speed train project.

Mr Wip is the son of Pansak Vinyaratn, chief adviser to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, said Mr Boonyod

However, Mr Wip was the wrong man for the job because he has no knowledge of engineering and high-speed trains, Mr Boonyod said.

Mr Wip graduated in philosophy and obtained a master's degree in history, he said.

Mr Boonyod called on the government to abide by the constitution by holding a referendum to allow the public a voice in the investment programme.
