Siem takes Agadir title, faces Masters wait

Marcel Siem claimed his third European Tour title with a three-shot victory in the Trophee Hassan II on Sunday and now faces a nervous wait before he discovers if he's earned a debut Masters place.

Marcel Siem of Germany hits off the sixth tee during the Final Round of the 94th PGA Championship at the Ocean Course on August 12, 2012 in Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Siem claimed his third European Tour title with a three-shot victory in the Trophee Hassan II on Sunday and now faces a nervous wait before he discovers if he's earned a debut Masters place.

The 32-year-old German, who led in Agadir from start to finish, needs to move into the world top 50 to qualify for Augusta in two weeks' time, but won't be certain of a place until the end of the Houston Open later Sunday.

"That will be unbelievable. It's been my dream since I was a kid so if that comes true it will be unbelievable. It would be wonderful to play the Masters," said Siem.

"I just want to be on that ground. I'm not going to cry but it would be very emotional."

Siem, the defending French Open champion, started the day four clear but bogeyed the first and was caught when Finland's Mikko Ilonen, who had suffered food poisoning overnight, had a hat-trick of gains from the second.

Siem responded with birdies at the fifth and seventh, but Ilonen matched it to remain within touching distance.

The German then birdied the 11th from ten feet as Ilonen found sand from the tee at the 12th.

Siem birdied the 15 before going on to card a final round two under par 70 and 17 under for the tournament.

Ilonen had two closing birdies and shared second place with 2011 winner David Horsey of England.
