Police said Phra Jinda Thammatharo, 48, slashed 59-year-old tuk-tuk driver Somchart Sae-lor with a knife outside a temple in Nakhon Ratchasima.

The monk went into hiding at his relative's house in Nakhon Sawan where he was later arrested.

Phra Jinda told police that he became angry when the tuk-tuk driver began berating him after they could not agree on the fare.

The monk said he then took out a knife, chased the driver and slashed him outside the temple.

The suspect, who has since left the monkhood, was charged with assault with a weapon, police said.
