Laos will hold talks with Unesco in June about listing the Plain of Jars as a World Heritage Site.

The Australian-sponsored meeting is to prepare the work to nominate the site in Xieng Khuang province to the UN agency, including development plans for the area, deputy director-general of the Lao Heritage Department Viengkeo Souksavatdy told the Vientiane Times.
Laos has not set a timeframe for the nomination, although it has pondered the plan.
Laos was backed by Australia and France in pushing for its third World Heritage Site, he said.
The whole town of Luang Prabang was the first World Heritage Site in Laos, declared in 1995, followed by Wat Phu in Champassak province in 2001.
The Plain of Jars in northern Laos is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Laos. It has more than 2,000 mysterious stone jars believed to be linked to ancient burial practices and spread over more than 90 sites.
Mr Viengkeo said the province's development plan will not pose problems for the listing of the Plain of Jars.
