A home-made bomb went off near a building used to sort fruit in Tanyongmat Municipality in Rangae district of Narathiwat province on Thursday afternoon, but caused no casualties.
A team of forensic police rushed to the scene to examine the shrapnel from the bomb.
Weighing about 1kg and made with a piece of PVC pipe, the bomb was timed to explode at 2.50pm with a digital watch.
The impact slightly damaged the wall of the fruit sorting centre.
Police believe the blast was intended to cause a disturbance when a large number of people turned out to witness the annual military conscription.
