Ratchaburi facing tall task against mighty Muang Thong

Defending champions SCG Muang Thong United hope to return to their winning ways when they travel to Ratchaburi in the Thai Premier League today.

Muang Thong’s Jakkraphan Pornsai, right, against Guangzhou in midweek.

The Kirins suffered an embarrassing 4-0 loss at China's Guangzhou Evergrande in the AFC Champions League in midweek and are on the verge of elimination with only one point from three games.

While Muang Thong have had an unconvincing spell in the continental tournament, they were unbeaten on the domestic front throughout last season.

The defending champions have won all their first four games this term and are looking forward to extending their perfect record.

"We must win to bring back our confidence," Muang Thong coach Slavisa Jokanovic said.

He added that he has a healthy squad, with Teerasil Dangda leading the attack.

Promoted Ratchaburi, meanwhile, aim to end Muang Thong's perfect run.

"It will be another difficult match for Ratchaburi. They lost in the AFC Champions League and will be determined to bounce back," Ratchaburi manager Thanawat Nitikanjana said.

"But we will be playing at home and we will try to get at least a point."

Chonburi today host Pattaya United in an eastern derby and will be without coach Witthaya Laohakul, who has been suspended for two matches for criticising a referee.

But stand-in coach Vorawut Srimaka is confident that the Sharks will win as they welcome back several players, including striker Pipob On-mo and Irfan Bachdim.

"Our target is to beat Pattaya," Vorawut said.
