Cool down in the summer heat with calming colours

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Summer heat calls for something cool and calming before the scorching temperature sends us crazy. Mint green has always been the colour to bank on in summer, and this year it is bigger than ever with leading fashion brands bringing down the heat with shades of the refreshing colour.

Why is mint such a summer darling? For one, green is closely associated with nature's leafy foliage that shields us from the summer sun. But perhaps it's the serenading green ocean that refreshes our mind. The soft pastel tone of mint green is also easy to wear and matches virtually any skin tone. Mint green is definitely on the list of top colours for the spring/summer 2013 season.

Mint green comes in a variety of shades, and while it can look good on anyone, it has to be paired with the right colours. Pair it with white or beige and you get a soft, feminine effect while you can also glam it up by mixing it with sparkling emerald greens or fiery reds. Anything with a blue undertone looks good with mint green, while colours with a yellow undertone (orange, for example) might be trickier to play with. Brighter vivid shades can also make the look more fun.

When it comes to mint green make-up, the safest bet would be to put it on the eyelids (although some daring souls might go for something quirkier like mint green eyebrows or even mint green lips). Mint green eyeshadows can be quite attention-grabbing, so to avoid overdoing your make-up, apply your eyeshadow before anything else and go from there. Perhaps it looks best with a clean, fresh face, or with a swipe of pale pink lip gloss. Perhaps you find it too plain and want to add an edge by putting on cherry red lipstick. Experiment with different looks and find which one you like best.

Pastel colours can make eyes look undefined. Black eyeliner is the most convenient way to fix that, but if you feel like going on a cosmetic adventure, rim your eyes with more intense colours like cobalt blue or dark green. Those with fair skin might find pastel mint green too light - adding a bronze or smokey effect at the outer edge can make it look more dramatic.

New-look little black bottle

The new and improved Lancome Advanced Genifique has arrived, and this time it promises to help get rid of 10 visual and tactile signs of ageing - fine lines, coarse wrinkles, lack of radiance, less clarity, uneven skin tone, rough texture, loss of resiliency, loss of tonicity, decreased firmness and sagginess. The award-winning product has received more than 130 prizes worldwide, but Lancome is committed to constantly improve. This "little black bottle" surpasses the universally celebrated performance of the previous version.

A bar of softness

Experts have always said washing with soap will make the skin too dry. That is about to change. Dove introduces Dove Beauty Bar that delivers a moisturising effect, as well as cleansing the skin gently. The special formula helps the skin retain its natural moisture without affecting its balance. The skin is soft, smooth and radiant.
