Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwanatat on Thursday morning led commanders of the army, navy, air force and police to call on Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda to perform the <i>rod nam dam hua</i> ceremony on the occasion of Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year.
Speaking on behalf of the armed services chiefs at his Si Sao Theves residence, ACM Sukumpol promised to lead the forces to work for the people, to remain righteous and set a fine model for society.
Gen Prem called on the people to give moral support to the armed forces for their sacrifice for the country.
The traditional rod nam dam hua ceremony, involving the washing of Gen Prem's hands and receiving of his blessing, was then held at the Chat Thong room of the Army Club.
