A monk was arrested for sexually harassing a four-year-old girl inside the grounds of a temple in Phitsanulok's Muang district on Wednesday, police said.
Police received a complaint via 191 hotline from the girl's grandmother, who was waiting at the temple when police arrived.
She told police that Phra Song Wut Santharo, 43, sexually harassed her granddaughter.
The monk was sitting in his living quarters when police found him. He appeared to be drunk, according to police.
Police found two bottles of homemade alcohol in his chamber and said that he tried to resist them. They patiently talked the monk into giving himself up.
A first he denied the allegation, but later told police that he did not do anything bad, just lightly touched the girl's private parts.
The grandmother told police that she and her four grandchildren regularly go to the temple to help the monks clean up.
She said one of her grandchildren came running to tell her that a monk had forced her youngest granddaughter into a tent.
When she got there she saw the monk putting his hand in the girl's underwear. She quickly took her outside and contacted the police.
Police said the man would be expelled from the monkhood and then taken into police custody.
