A passenger posted the photo of the incident on her Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TangSiries. She said the photo was taken on Thursday afternoon at Ari station where she got on the train. She said the situation was worse than it looked in the photo, and passengers were very surprised to see the flooding.
It was raining hard and very windy at the time. The rainwater came in when the train’s doors were open.
BTS director Anat Arbhabhirama said the picture was taken when there was heavy rain with strong winds.
"The strong wind blew the rain into the trains when the doors opened. During that time, we had to keep the doors open longer than normal because it was very crowded and passengers were trying to avoid getting wet from the heavy rain," Mr Anat said.
“BTS has experienced such incidents during this time of the year but with varying degrees. Most of its 23 old stations don't have roof cover in the middle, so [we] can' t avoid such a problem.
“The flooded train was dried and cleaned when it reached the terminal station,” he said.
