Ayutthaya police seize guns, drugs

Police in Ayutthaya province announced they arrested 30 people for illegally carrying firearms and more than 300 people on drug charges during the Songkran holiday period.

Ayutthaya police chief Korn-eak Phetchaiyawet said on Thursday that a total of 764 cases involving 821 people were processed at the 26 police stations under his command during the 10 days from April 8 to 17.

Pol Maj Gen Korn-eak said 307 people were arrested on drug charges and about 4,000 methamphetamine pills, were seized.

Police also confiscated 31 firearms and arrested 30 people for illegally carrying guns.

He said 294 people were arrested for drinking and driving and another 3,000 people were ticketed for breaking traffic laws.

There were three accidents in Ayutthaya during the Songkran holiday period, with eight deaths and 46 injuries, he said.
