Army conscript hangs himself

Army conscript hangs himself

A young man committed suicide in his home in Suphan Buri province after he was conscripted into the army, police said on Friday.

Police were alerted by a hospital that Anan (surname withheld), 23, died by hanging himself on a rope on Thursday.

According to a forensic report, he had been dead four or five hours before he was admitted to the hospital.

In his room police found a suicide note saying that he was unlucky enough to have picked out a red ball during the army selection process.

A person who draws a red ball is drafted for two years and a black ball means the person is exempted from military service.

"I don't want to be a soldier," the suicide note found in his room said.

According to his relatives, Anan was drafted into the army during the selection process in the first week of April and was due to report to his commander on May 1.

His relatives said they were shocked because Anan appeared happy during the Songkran celebration.
