Kwanchai nine shots clear at Pattaya event

PATTAYA : Kwanchai Tannin yesterday raced to a massive nine-shot lead after the third round of the Singha Pattaya Open.

Kwanchai hit a seven-under-par 65 at Burapha Golf Club for 197 while Thaworn Wiratchant shot a 72 for 206.

"That is definitely one of my best rounds. In fact I don't think I have shot 66, 66 and 65 in a tournament," Kwanchai said afterward.

Kwanchai's mother is the sister of golfer Prayad Marksaeng. He was coached in his formative years by Thai golfing legend Boonchu Ruangkit.

Thailand's Prom Meesawat, winner of this Asean PGA Tour event for the past two years and in 2006, returned a 71 and was tied for third, 10 shots off the lead.

His total of 207 was matched by Panuwat Muenlek and Filipino Mars Pucay.
