Erika Lemay blended balancing routines and aerial stunts in a seamless, sensational display of the skill and grace that have made her a global star

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Stunning performances by Erika Lemay three nights running in late March made everyone in the "big top" set up at the outdoor car park of Central Chidlom forget the summer heat. With invitation cards in hand bearing the image of the "queen of the circus" in a graceful acrobatic pose, guests turned out in large numbers for the show headlined "Central Summer Fest 2013: Le Style Movement by Erika Lemay". When the highly anticipated moment arrived on opening night, March 29, MC Saraichat "Ning" Kunchorn Jeeraphat introduced the agile star, who had flown in from her native Canada.

Lemay has performed for His Majesty King Harald V and Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway. She frequently takes the stage as a special guest star with the famed Cirque du Soleil, and often appears at prestigious events including the 66th Venice International Film Festival.

Lemay was one of the acts at the extravagant re-launch of La Mamounia in Marrakesh, Morrocco, and was featured in the Norwegian film Half Brother.

For her Bangkok shows Lemay introduced new choreography as well as completely new costumes and props. And stunning they were, with digital images, bold colours and music providing a mesmerising backdrop to the performance that involved balancing acts, aerial acrobatics and physical artistry on poles and hoops.

Combining ballet, gymnastics and her advanced acrobatic skills, the Bangkok show was a seamless, sensational performance, divided into three segments: "Genesis of Grace", with choreographed handstands on three poles; "Force of Nature", performed with a hoop; and "Purification", with a special fabric that kept the star suspended in mid-air, while water techniques along with light and sound effects created the appearance of purifying "rain".

The segments were interwoven with songs from Piyanut "Jiew" Suajongproo, delivered in her powerful voice and featuring a dynamic dance ensemble, as well as fashion shows featuring professional and celebrity models previewing Spring/Summer 2013 collections. When superstar Chermarn "Ploy" Boonyasak took to the stage in the fashion finale the applause was deafening.
