Four mild quakes hit Lampang

Four mild earthquakes of 1.7, 3.1, 2.5 and 1.7 magnitude hit Ngao district of Lampang province on Sunday morning, according to the Seismological Bureau of the Thai Meteorological Department.

The first quake, which measured 1.7 on the Richter scale, occurred at 8.01am on Sunday, followed by a 3.1 quake at 8.09am. The third 2.5 quake hit the same district at 9.43am. The fourth one with a 1.7 magnitue occured at 10.52am.

Somboon Kositanon, director of the Lampang mineral resource office's zone 1, said earlier on Saturday night, at 12.04am, a 1.7 quake occurred in Pong district of Phayao province. 

Then in the morning, the quakes hit Ngao district of Lampang. The epicentre is in forest far from from houses. The office will inspect the quake location for its database.

He said the quakes occurred with no report of acknowledgement from local people so the preliminary assessment is that they caused no injuries or damage.

Earlier, a 1.7 quake hit Lampang's Ngao district on Apr 19, 2013.
