Rock-thrower hits Bangkok streets

Police are hunting an unidentified man who was seen by witnesses throwing rocks at passing cars on two busy roads in Bangkok on Tuesday, the Jor Sor 100 traffic radio station said.

Police first received reports of the man, thought to be mentally ill, Monday morning in the Silom area, according to a report on the station’s Twitter page.

Witnesses said the man was wearing a motorcycle helmet, standing on a flyover above Sala Daeng intersection, when he took out a big rock from his jacket and tossed it down into Silom Road. The rock hit and damaged a side view mirror of a black Toyota sedan as the car waited for a green light in front of the Dusit Thani hotel.

The man then fled on a motorcycle.

A second attack, perhaps by the same man, was reported on Ratchadaphisek Road near the Rama 9 Intersection in the afternoon. The assailant was spotted by eyewitnesses standing on the elevated Chaturathit Road when he threw a large rock into a traffic lane of Ratchadaphisek Road below. The rock hit and fractured the windshield on the driver's side of a new Toyota pickup truck, which still had red licence plates.

Police in several districts of Bangkok are searching for the man, the report said.
