Young rock throwers arrested

Samut Prakan police on Tuesday arrested a group of teenagers accused of throwing rocks at random cars because they wanted to "show off" their actions to people on the internet.

Pol Col Panlop Airomla, chief of of Muang Samut Prakan police station, said a woman lodged a complaint that a rock weighed about one kilogramme was thrown into the windshield of her car when it was parked at an alley in Muang district on April 20.

He said footage from a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showed six people on two motorcycles driving away from the woman's car.

Investigators later found out that one of the bikes belonged to a local 16-year-old boy. The youth was later arrested, along with eight other suspects, including a girl.

The two motorcycles seen in the footage were confiscated, along with six rocks.

The 16-year-old admitted to police that he and his friends did throw rocks at random cars. He said he was the group's leader. 

They had hurled stones at cars and homes on at least 13 occasions, the teenager confessed.

"We had nothing to do during school holidays so we gathered together and went out to throw rocks at various things as a prank, and we recorded what we did to show off online," the boy said. 

He said they had no intention to hurt anyone.

The group was charged with causing damage to property.
