PHAYAO: A psychiatrist committed suicide after learning that his elder sister had died in an accident.
The man's body was found on Saturday morning hanging from a large tree in tambon Tha Wangthong of Muang district. The deceased was identified at Rattaphum Pakphien, 34, who had worked at Phayao hospital. Police suspect that he had been dead for least five hours before he was found.
Officers at Muang district police station said Rattaphum had been informed on Friday evening that his elder sister Kanokporn Pakphien, 49, had been struck by a bus and died.
The two were very close as Kanokporn had cared for her younger brother after their mother died.
After learning of his sister's death, the young doctor disappeared without talking to anyone, police said. Later on Saturday morning, he was found hanging from a tree.
Kanokporn had worked as a nurse in the Phayao hospital. She was hit by a bus while walking across Phahon Yothin Road in Muang district. The driver from Chiang Rai turned himself in after the accident and was charged with careless driving.
