Royal Thai Navy 1 takes lead at Top of the Gulf Regatta

PATTAYA : Excellent winds and blue skies welcomed more than 500 sailors on the first day of the 2013 Top of the Gulf Regatta at Ocean Marina Yacht Club yesterday.

Royal Thai Navy 1 scored two wins on the first day of the Top of the Gulf Regatta.

Singapore's Foxy Lady scored the first two wins in the IRC One class against a competitive international fleet including entries from Hong Kong, Australia and Thailand, whose Wan Marang scored two second-placed finishes.

It was tight in the IRC Two with Royal Thai Navy 1, skippered by Wiwat Poonpat, beating experienced Australian team Ichi Ban.

The all-Singaporean crew from Singapore Management University (SMU) made their mark in the IRC Three with two clear wins.

The Platus are racing for the prestigious Coronation Cup and 15 boats from all corners of the world, the competition was tight.

Black Betty, skippered by Gary McNally, made it two wins from two races yesterday to take an early lead in the class.
