Singha Tour ready to return

The Singha TATP Tour 2013 has been relaunched to promote tennis in the country.

Sponsored by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and Singha Corporation, the tour features five tournaments.

The first four events, starting with the May 11-19 Singha Bangkok Open, will each have a total purse of 500,000 baht while the final, the Singha Masters, will offer one million baht in prize money.

Thai national player Danai Udomchoke welcomed the tour, saying it will be important in grooming young players.

"I used to play in such tournaments so I know how important they are," Danai said. "We need these events to find new stars."

The tour was absent for many years before being brought back.

Suang Chantra-urai, of Singha Corporation, said the series will help revive the popularity of the sport.

The country has struggled to find skilful new players to replace former world No.9 Paradorn Srichapan, who has switched to golf.
