Locals sailors lead the way on second day of regatta

PATTAYA : Thai sailors built leads in the dinghy and beach catamaran classes on Day Two of the Top of the Gulf Regatta 2013, held at Ocean Marina Yacht Club.

Former Asian Champion Damrongsak Vongtim yesterday continued his winning ways in the Open Multihull class, adding three wins to his three from the day before and now sits undefeated on six points.

Future Olympic hopeful Kamolwan Chanyim finished tied in third yesterday in the Single-Handed Monohull Dinghy class and performed well to keep in touch with the leader, Thai National Team member Keerati Bualong.

The strong winds saw a number of capsizes and a dismasting on the dinghy and beach catamaran course, while the larger boats enjoyed the strong winds in Race One.

A second place for Foxy Lady in IRC Racing 1 was enough for them to stay at the top of the standings, while Australian entry KukukKERchu won the first race and moves up to second overall.

Another first for Ichiban in IRC Racing 2 means they take the lead (four points) and push Royal Thai Navy 1 (five) into second.

Shortime, in the Platu class, took the bullet in Race 1 with a strong performance, but it was not enough to replace Black Betty (4pts), which leads the standings with Tigrana (8pts) in third. The strong winds forced Platu 122 to retire with a broken mast.

It was all change in the Ocean Multihulls class today with Black Swan scoring their first place and moving to second overall behind David Liddell's Miss Saigon (four points), which finished second.
