Municipal clerk slain in Pattani

A municipal official was shot dead in a daylight attack at a restaurant in Muang district on Tuesday.

Police said the murder occurred about 11.30am as Thiralak Suwannarat, the clerk of tambon Mayo Municipality, was arriving at the Nara restaurant in tambon Rusamilae for lunch.

Witnesses told police two men who arrived earlier at the restaurant on a motorcycle had waited at the entrance.  When Thiralak arrived, one of them opened fire at him with a handgun, shooting him twice in the body.

The municipal clerk died on the way to Pattani Hospital. The two men fled on the motorcycle.

Police are investigating.
