The trial on terrorism charges of 24 leading members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) was on Thursday adjourned until Friday because one of the defendants had to attend another court to hear a verdict in an election case.
The 24 defendants, including Veerakan Musikhapong, Jatuporn Prompan and Nattawut Saikuar, appeared before the Criminal Court this morning for the examination of witnesses. They have been charged with terrorism and other offences in connection with the UDD anti-government protests from Feb 28 - May 20, 2010.
The lawyer for Karun Hosakul, one of the defendants, requested an adjournment because Mr Karun had to appear before the Supreme Court's Election Cases Division today hear the verdict in a case in which he was accused of breaking the election law.
The Supreme Court is set to announce its verdict this afternoon on whether it will disqualify Mr Karun as an MP, as proposed by the Election Commission.
The Criminal Court, therefore, postponed today's hearing of the terrorism case to 9am tomorrow.
Korkaew Pikulthong, a Pheu Thai Party list MP and a defendant in the terrorism case, was brought from the special prison at Lak Si to attend the trial.
Mr Korkaew submitted a fresh request for release on bail. He promised to strictly follow the bail conditions set by the court.
The court said it will rule on Mr Korkaew's bail request tomorrow at 9am.
