Fire at Chatuchak market

Fire at Chatuchak market

A fire at Chatuchak market on Friday morning damaged 36 shops in Project 6, opposite Mor Chit BTS station. The cost of the damage is estimated to be 20 million baht.

Police at Bang Sue station said at least 10 fire trucks and their crews were sent to the scene and took around 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

A witness told the police that they saw sparks coming from some electrical wiring, so investigators suspect the blaze was caused by an electrical short circuit.

Firefighters said the water pump in the area was not working when they arrived at the scene, but because the fire was in a part of the market that is close to the road, they were still able to bring it under control in a short time.

Two firefighters were reported to have been slightly injured.
