Thai Rath office attacked

Four men on two motorcycles threw firecrackers and petanque balls at security box in front of the office of Thai Rath newspaper in Chatuchak district early Saturday morning, no injuries reported.

Police were alerted about the incident which occurred around 03.20am. They found the security box’s glass window totally damaged and found one petanque ball inside the box and another on the road.

A security guard said he was on duty as usual and suddenly the two motorcycles showed up at the entrance. One man, aged between 25 and 30 years old, in black jacket and blue jeans run to the front gate and throw the petanque balls and firecrackers at the window. Then they all fled.

Police will examine the evidence and look for fingerprints on the ball in order to track down the attackers.

Pol Col Sunthorn Kongklum, superintendent of Bang Sue police station said the CCTV revealed that the attackers went to Lat Phrao intersection but no CCTV can catch their clear images.

He said at this stage it cannot be identified whether the motive of the attack involve the politic or not.

Earlier, Thai Rath’s cartoonist Somchai Katanyutanan, better known by his pen name Chai Ratchawat, was the centre of criticism as he was accused of defaming Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in his comments posted on this Facebook page.
