Two-week old baby girl dumped

An infant only one to two weeks old was found left next to an apartment building in Bangkok on Monday morning, police said.

Pol Lt Teerakiat Teekabutr, a duty officer at Phahon Yothin police station, said he received a report of the abandoned baby girl about 6am from a security guard working at California apartment building in Soi Suea Yai 36, Chatuchak district.

She was wrapped in three small towels, and was found with a bottle of milk, baby diapers and a gold ankle bracelet.

Pol Lt Teerakiat said the child had suffered ant and mosquito bites, and her right arm was inflamed.

The security guard told police he heard the sound of a baby crying near the apartment about 5am. He then called people living in the area to help find it.

Police suspected the baby was abandoned by a young mother who felt that she was not ready to raise her.

The infant was sent to Rajavithi hospital.
