Boyd injury concerns for Queensland Origin team

Test back Darius Boyd may have suffered a serious injury and is in doubt for Queensland's State of Origin opener as the Newcastle Knights crashed to defeat to the New Zealand Warriors in Australia's National Rugby League on Sunday.

Australia's Darius Boyd scores a try on November 13, 2011 during a Four Nations rugby league test match between Wales and Australia at The Racecourse ground in Wrexham, North Wales. Boyd may have suffered a serious injury and is in doubt for Queensland's State of Origin opener as the Newcastle Knights crashed to defeat to the New Zealand Warriors in Australia's National Rugby League on Sunday.

Boyd writhed in pain clutching his leg and will have scans on Monday amid fears he may have fractured an ankle in the Knights' 28-12 loss to the Warriors in Auckland.

Boyd was expected to be chosen in Queensland's team to be announced on Monday for the Origin opener against New South Wales in Sydney on June 5.

The Warriors climbed off the bottom of the NRL standings after fighting back from 12-10 down at halftime to outscore Wayne Bennett's Knights 18-0 in the second half.

South Sydney will remain the NRL leaders irrespective of the result of Monday's remaining match of round 11 against the Cronulla Sharks.

Defending champions Melbourne Storm moved to second on the ladder with a 26-18 win over the in-form Sydney Roosters.

It was the Storm's first win in a month but there was some controversy with Test scrumhalf Cooper Cronk's Queensland State of Origin hopes in doubt after he was placed on the referee's report for a lifting tackle on Roosters winger Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

Manly Sea Eagles are fourth after coming from behind to beat the Canberra Raiders 16-10 at Brookvale Oval.

Coming off a gruelling extra time draw against Melbourne the previous Monday, Manly were under pressure for most of the first 55 minutes.

But tries to winger David Williams and forward Justin Horo in the last 12 minutes were enough for Manly to avoid three straight home losses for the first time in nine years.

Gold Coast Titans moved to sixth behind the Knights after smashing Parramatta 42-4 in Mudgee on Sunday.

The Titans ran in seven tries to one as they recorded the biggest win of their seven-year existence.

The Penrith Panthers climbed into the top eight with a 19-0 win over St George Illawarra at Kogarah.

The rejuvenated Panthers secured a third successive victory thanks to a dominant first-half performance that yielded three tries.

Canterbury Bulldogs bounced back from their last-start thrashing to Newcastle with a solid 24-14 win over Brisbane, while a 78th-minute David Nofoaluma try sealed a controversial 22-20 win for the Wests Tigers over North Queensland to end a seven-game losing streak.
