Three 14-year-olds, two girls and a boy, were wounded in an attack by gunmen at a sports field in Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat province late Sunday, police said.
Pol Capt Nipon Teotrakul, the duty officer at Sungai Kolok police station, said the incident occurred about 11.30pm while a group of young athletes were resting after a training session at the sports field opposite Sungai Kolok Secondary School in the municipality.
Four assailants arrived at the scene on two motorcycles, the police report said. One pillion rider fired six shots at the group with a handgun before fleeing.

Feeradao Maseng, the boy, was also slightly wounded by a bullet that grazed his buttock.
All three were treated at Sungai Kolok Hospital.
Four spent shells from the handgun were recovered at the scene. Police were investigating the motive of the attack.
