Street food will be used to promote Thai tourism among local and Asian travellers this year.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand will use the Thai Food Festival under an "Easy Tasty Street Foods" concept to market events promoting street food.

Thai street food is popular among foreign tourists, especially expatriates and Asian travellers. Bangkok has been voted among Asia's top 10 street food cities by CNNGo.com.

This made the TAT confident that Thai food can help boost tourism, especially among the booming Asian tourist market.

The festival will be held from June 13-16 at CentralWorld. More than 50 well-known restaurants and street food stalls will join the event featuring favourites pad see ew (broad noodles fried with kale), som tam (unripe papaya salad), moo ping (grilled pork), boat noodles, khao pad poo (fried rice with crab), moo dad diew (sun-dried pork), khanom jeen (rice noodles with curry), cha yen (sweet iced tea), khao niew ma muang (sticky rice with mango) and khanom krok (coconut-based sweet).

The TAT will spend 7 million baht on the event and projects it will generate at least 480 million baht in revenue.

"How many places in the world can you find delicious food around the clock? Thailand is one of them, and we have a large variety of food at reasonable prices," said Wilaiwan Tawitsri, a TAT deputy governor.

The TAT believes the festival will increase daily spending of tourists.

The authority will launch website Tourismthailand.org/amazingthaifood on June 6 to promote the event.
