Siam Society will welcome back the renowned Stanford Chamber Chorale and Stanford Taiko in a concert set for June 19 at 7pm.

Stanford Chamber is the Stanford University Department of Music's most select choir, comprising 24 voices drawn from both graduate and undergraduate students hailing from across the US and around the world.
Dedicated to performing literature best suited for a small choral ensemble, the Chamber Chorale has had the honour of receiving works from renowned composers Randall Thompson, Kirke Mechem, Howard Helvey, Takeo Kudo, Jiri Laburda, Paul Crabtree, and Grammy award-winning composer Christopher Tin.
Over the years, the chamber has toured in the US, Japan, England, Wales, Scotland, Austria, Germany, Israel, Italy, and France and has appeared in a notable list of venues including the US National Gallery of Arts, the Smithsonian, the great British cathedrals, Cambridge and Oxford chapels, the Great Hall of People in Beijing, and the Shanghai Concert Hall.
Taiko is a Japanese drum introduced to San Francisco in late 1960s which has spread throughout the US. Stanford Taiko took root in 1992 and has gained acceptance and popularity on campus.
Each year hundreds of students try out and only four are admitted to the 16-member group.
The ensemble devotes many hours to rehearsals while taking a full load of classes in their demanding academic programmes.
They compose music and frequently perform on campus. Their tours of the country and abroad have taken them to the International Youth Cultural Festival, which was part of the Beijing Olympics in 2008. This will be their fourth visit to Thailand.
