Glistening on the calendar of gem enthusiasts this week is the country's only mid-year jewellery fair, which will take place in the heart of Bangkok from Thursday to Sunday.

The ‘International Gems & Jewelry Fair 2013’ features a selection of precious items from local and international makers at the Royal Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon from Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 7.30pm.

Held to promote Thailand as a centre of regional trade in gems and jewellery, the "International Gems & Jewelry Fair 2013" will feature more than 200 booths of precious accessories by leading jewellery houses from Thailand and overseas, at the Royal Paragon Hall, 5th floor of Siam Paragon.

Among the participating brands are Beauty Gems Group, Diamrusa, Lee Seng Jewelry, Ta Jewels and AK Mahallati from Thailand, as well as Taka Jewellery from Singapore, Sade Is Mounting Jewellery from Turkey, and Avi Paz Diamond and Mor Brothers Diamonds from Israel.

The fair is an opportunity to purchase diamond rings, gold chains and precious stones directly from manufacturers at special prices. A number of award-winning pieces will also be showcased.

On Thursday and Friday, VIP customers will have a chance to win a one-carat diamond.

Throughout the four-day event, customers will have a chance to win a diamond ring every hour (10 rings a day). Those who make it to the fair will receive a free jewellery souvenir (limited to 20,000 pieces a day).

Admission is free.
