A ranger was killed and another wounded by a bomb explosion in Yarang district of Pattani province on Monday morning, police said.
Pol Col Wasant Puangnoy, the Yarang police chief, said the attack occurred about 10.30am on a road at Ban Basa Kaji in tambon Kado of Yarang district.
The bomb, weighing about 4kg, was buried in the road and was detonated as a four-member foot patrol from Rangers Company 2212 moved along the road.
The explosion wounded L/Cpl Chanchote Phetpong, 23, and volunteer ranger Anurak Sukri. L/Cpl Chanchote was later pronounced dead at Yarang Hospital.
