A total of 86,577 vehicles were exported in May, up 0.68% on May 2012, and an increase of 27.99% on April, Surapong Paisitpatanapong, spokesman for the Automotive Industry Club, said on Friday.
The export value for the month stood at 38.89 billion baht, down 3.75% on May 2012, said Mr Surapong.
Exports over the first five months of the year (Jan-May) totalled 438,184 units, up 21% on the same period last year. Export value was up 14.88% to stand at 196.14 billion baht.
Vehicle output in May stood at 231,070 units, up 11.09% on May 2012 and up 35.56% on April. Output over the first five months of the year amounted to 1,123,030 units, an increase of 31.73% on the same period last year.
Domestic car sales over the month totalled 111,692 units, a decline of 3.7% on May 2012, but up 1.84% on April, on the back of there being more working days in the month and more car deliveries to buyers under the first car scheme.
