Thailand stunned hosts China 5-1 in a friendly football match in Hefei in eastern Anhui province on Saturday.
The Thai squad fielded a collection of SEA Games (U23) and national team players led by Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool who wore the captain's armband for the first time. Other notables in the lineup were Adul Lasoh, Adisak Kraisorn and Teerathorn Bunmathan.
Thailand started off very well and had a chance from Adisak Kraisorn but his shot was denied by the Chinese player.
The first goal came in the 16th minute when Pokklao Anan directed a long ball into the net to put the Thai side ahead 1-0. The goal caused a shocked silence among the Chinese crowd in the stadium.
Seven minutes later, Buriram United striker Adisak Kraisorn made it 2-0 by converting from a few yards.
Thailand continued to play very well, especially their new rising stars but in the 32nd minute, the Chinese national team earned a penalty kick. Wang Yong Po made no mistake as he caught Thai keeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool diving the wrong way. Thailand took a 2-1 lead into the dressing room at halftime.
Six minutes after the second-half kickoff, Adisak Kraisorn put the Thai side ahead 3-1 lead when he tripped over Chinese defenders and shot home within a few yards.
Thailand looked more confident while China seemed to lack willingness, and in the 61st minute Adul Lasoh took the ball from midfield and passed to BEC Tero's Chanathip Songkrasin who created the fourth goal.
Sarawut Masuk rounded out the scoring with a short-range kick to complete the decisive 5-1 win over China.
