Store robber returns 10 baht

Store robber returns 10 baht

A robber made off with 2,200 baht in cash from a convenience store in Phuket province on Tuesday, but minutes later returned a 10-baht coin before escaping a second time.

Wanna Ketkaew, 28, and Fontip Rakrit, 25, two clerks at Family Mart convenience store in Phuket's Thalang district, told police that the robber was wearing a pink raincoat, a pair of shorts, a motorcycle helmet and a sanitary mask to cover his face.

The man parked his motorbike and ran into their store during a heavy rain storm, Ms Wanna said. He directly approached the two staff and threatened them with a knife before grabbing 2,200 baht from the cash register and fleeing out the door.

A few minutes later, with the two clerks still discussing the robbery, the same man, in the same outfit, returned. He dropped a 10-baht coin on the counter - and took off again.

Police believed the robber might have been thinking that if he returned some of the stolen money and then was caught, the court would go lightly on him and keep him out of jail.

Police found the robber's fingerprints at the store - including those on the returned 10 baht.
