Egat's new governor selected

Soonchai Kumnoonsate, deputy governor for power plants at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat), has been selected by a committee to become the new governor of the organisation.

Soonchai Kumnoonsate will become the new governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat).

The selection committee, chaired by deputy permanent secretary for energy Kurujit Nakornthap, on Wednesday reported the result to Egat's board, saying that Mr Soonchai had the highest assessment score of the three candidates. 

The other two candidates were Pongdit Potejana, Egat's deputy governor for corporate social responsibility, and Thana Putarangsi, deputy governor for transmission systems.

The new governor will succeed Sutat Patmasiriwat, whose term will expire end of next month.

Once the selection process is officially completed, Mr Soonchai will become the 12th governor. His term will end in June 2016.   

The Ministry of Finance will consider his salary andsign an employment contract with him this week. It will then be submitted to cabinet for formal approval this month.
