The Thailand Inter-University Choir and Orchestra under the baton of Henri Pompidor are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Elysee Treaty and friendship between France and Germany with a classical concert.
The Thailand Inter-University Choir and Orchestra will perform The Music of the Four Elements concert under the baton of Henri Pompidor at Sofitel So Bangkok.
The performance will take place at Sofitel So Bangkok's Ballroom on Sathon Road on July 17 at 8pm.
The concert will highlight the half-century of strong friendship between both countries, which have had their share of history, through orchestral and vocal works by some of the most exciting French and German composers.
Four composers have been selected for this performance: two German, Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Philipp Telemann, and two French, Jean-Baptiste Lully and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
They are being referred to as the four elements.
Bach will be the composer of "air" with the performance of three movements of his orchestral Suite No.3.
Several marches and ballet music by Lully will show the element of "earth".
Telemann will bring the audience to "water" through his Wassermusik, a composition certainly less known than the Water Music of his contemporary Handel, but equally as majestic.
Finally, a special place is given to Rameau and excerpts from his music ballet Les Indes Galantes, performed with vitality and strength by orchestra and choir, a way to enhance the "fire" and complete the four elements.
