Urai Yobkhan, 34, was napped by Tha Chatchai police at her house with A$200 (5,700 baht) in cash stolen from Andrea Clappis, an Australian national, while checking in at the airport, Pol Maj Gen Chote Chawalwiwat, chief of Phuket police, said.

The visitor told police at the airport about the theft and they then informed Chat Chai police to look for the thief.

Pol Maj Gen Chote said Mrs Urai, a Ranong native, conceded that she had committed the crime.

She worked at a luggage x-ray machine on the second floor of the airport.
