Snooze away the blues

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

The magnificence of a snooze button is that one press is all it takes _ five minutes later, you will have morphed from an insufferable grump into a sunny sweetheart. That's exactly what Snooze Cafe intends to be _ a little corner of Muji simplicity and cute wooden seats that can lift your mood with all the delightful treats they serve.

Snooze’s Fav.

Sliced ice cream following the original Taiwanese formula is the main fix here. Extremely strong and rich in flavour, Snooze's sliced ice creams are just as tasteful as normal scoops, with the flakes much more packed than other places. What's to love is how there are 15 flavours (59 or 69 baht each) to choose from. These flavours are also freshly uncommon: whether roast bean, taro or banana _ a step away from the usual chocolate, strawberry and Thai tea, although that's available too. There are 25 different toppings, at 10 baht per spoon or 15 per two. You can expect to see all the usual fruit toppings, brownies and crispy knickknacks but also a touch of Thai taste, such as Nesvita, Ojo sticks and Peepo jelly. However, the real highlight are the bubble bombs: they are bursts of fruity juices under a thin jelly skin and are imported straight from Taiwan.

Soft-cookie sandwich.

If you want to go for the fail-safe tried and tested combos, there are five volcanoes, large enough for three, following different themes. We picked best-seller Snooze's Fav (129 baht), which consists of sliced yogurt ice cream, strawberry sauce, apple, kiwi fruit and bubble bombs. To be honest, everything will taste good when there are bubble bombs involved, and although this pairing is on the sour side, there will be less calories since it is yogurt.

All the brownies and cookies at Snooze are made by Channel V VJ Ink Chayanuj, one of the three owners, and the soft-cookie sandwich (75 baht) is a truly sweet treat with vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two large, chewy chocolate chip cookies and a generous dollop of chocolate sauce. It may be simple, but when done right, it really brings about the pleasures of comfort food.

The drinks don't fail to refresh and it's dandy how they are so generous with their ingredients as there was plenty of yogurt, passion fruit and lychee bubble bombs in the Strawberry Soda (59 baht). Definitely worth a visit if you're in the hood and need some mood changing.
