It will be only the second time for the deputy premier responsible for the security issues has ever visited the insurgency plagued provinces. His first, brief trip was in April.
Mr Chalerm announced his plans on Friday.
He declined to reveal where he would go or who he would talk to.
He said his policeman son Duang will accompany him as his personal bodyguard, and invited opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva to also join the trip.
Mr Chalerm also said agreed that more security surveillance cameras and lights should be installed at significant locations.
Asked about concerns there could be violence during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan in July, by insurgents intent on ending the peace talks negotiations with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, Mr Chalerm said he would be briefed on this issue.
