The 21-year-old magazine model Nattikarn Asawamongkolpan told the police on Tuesday that Mr Boonsit beat her repeatedly, and produced a photo of what she said were her injuries. She said that she had tried to break up with him, but that he had locked her up and threatened to kill her.

Mr Boonsit on Friday held a press conference saying that he has lived with Ms Nattikarn for more than three years. He said it was normal for couples to have arguments, but claimed he did not beat her last month.

He said the photo shown my Ms Nattikarn was in fact taken several years ago. He also denied locking her up, but said that when they argued, she would run away, and he would ask her to come back. They broke up and got back together several times, he said.

He said the last time that they argued seriously was in February, when Ms Nattikarn cut her wrist. He said he rushed her to a hospital at the time, but by the next day the pair had reconciled, so went away together on a trip to South Korea.

Mr Boonsit said he wants to clear his name, because Ms Nattikarn wrongly accused him of being a psychopath.

He insisted that he still loves Ms Nattikarn and will forgive her for reporting him to the police, adding that he will meet with law enforcement officers next week and plans to assign a lawyer to take care of legal proceedings.
