He makes money fixing air conditioners in Tak province, but Nipon Intarit has the soul of an artist and poet. Now his first solo photographic exhibition, which focuses on children, is about to be unveiled in Bangkok.
Through his lens, Nipon has captured not just little people but transmigrating souls reliving this intense life.
His works portray children drawn like magnets to an ancient tree, driven to encircle the only source of life in the midst of a housing project. Two little girls talk to their small pet, a squirrel they have captured and tied by its neck to a rope. Helped by his tattooed dad, a baby wills itself to rise up from a reptile.
Their stories, presented in black and white, are like fairy tales _ luminous in their darkness and their intensity.
The "Fairy Tale" exhibition is on at Kathmandu Photo Gallery from July 6 to Aug 11. This is Nipon's first solo show. The photographer and poet earns his living as an air conditioner serviceman in Tak.
