Pattaya withdraw FAT lawsuit

Pattaya FC withdrew their lawsuit against the Football Association of Thailand on Monday but the FAT presidential election saga took another twist when his opponents claimed incumbent Worawi Makudi no longer has authority to run the organisation.

Former national team manager and FAT presidential candidate Virach Charnpanich.

Pattaya FC chairman Nattapol Panyakananukul told a press conference the club had withdrawn the lawsuit filed with Bangkok's Min Buri Court, which prevented the FAT from changing its electoral code to comply with Fifa statutes.

The move came after Fifa demanded the fourth-tier club withdraw the lawsuit by yesterday or Thailand could face consequences.

Fifa has said the FAT must adopt its revised regulations to be in line with Fifa statutes before an FAT presidential election can be held.

While Fifa says an FAT election should be held by Sept 30, Worawi's opponents argue it must take place within 30 days of the incumbent's term expiring. Worawi's two-year term ended on June 16.

Nattapol said he dropped the lawsuit because Worawi now has nothing to do with the FAT after his term expired.

Also at the press conference, former national team manager Virach Charnpanich, a candidate in the upcoming FAT presidential election, said Worawi's term had ended and that he could not continue as acting president.

Virach claimed that FAT regulations stated that its president, as well as other members of its executive board, could only continue as acting president for 30 days only if the person resigned or was removed by two third of its members.

He said the president who completed his term would not have any authority to run the association after that.

"The term of Worawi and his executive board have completely ended," Virach said. "Worawi and his executive board no longer have authority to run the FAT."

The SAT has previously said Worawi could run the FAT as acting president for 30 days after his term ended.

Virach said about 100 football clubs under the FAT would sign a petition to call on the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) to hold an election for president of the FAT.

Virach said he did not oppose Fifa statutes and that he would push for changes to FAT regulations as soon as possible if he becomes FAT president.
