The owner of an Islamic religious school, or ponoh, was killed and his wife critically injured in a shooting in Yarang district of Pattani on Tuesday, reports said.
According to witnesses, four men arrived at the school on two motorcycles.
They called Isma-air Maoh-mani, the ponoh owner, and his wife Farisa Wanyen out for a talk. One of them then took out a handgun and fired on the couple. The attackers then fled.
Isma-air was shot in his torso and died on the spot. Mrs Farisa was seriously wounded and taken to Pattani hospital.
Police were investigating.
