The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) on Wednesday submitted reports to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accusing former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and his then deputy Suthep Thaugsuban of premeditated murder and attempted murder in connection with the crackdown on red-shirt protesters in April-May 2010.
The DSI case charges Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep in relation to the deaths of taxi driver Phan Khamkong and nine-year-old Kunakorn Srisuwa and the serious injuries inflicted on Samorn Maithong during the crackdown.
Pol Lt-Col Wannapong Kocharak, deputy director-general of the DSI, and Pol Maj Yutthana Praedam, a DSI specialist, handed investigation reports on the case to Vinai Mahadamrongkul, director-general of the Office of Special Cases, recommending the indictment of Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep.
Mr Abhisit and Mr Suthep denied all the charges at a meeting with Mr Vinai, which lasted about 20 minutes. They said they would submit a letter to the OAG requesting justice and questioning the DSI's jurisdiction in handling the case.
The prosecution will issue a decision on whether to indict the two on Aug 26 at 10am.
