Cambodians held over thefts

Four Cambodians have been arrested on pickpocketing charges after the theft of a mobile phone from a passenger at a BTS station.

Tourist police arrested Kunther Horn, 35, Tet Te, 33, and Virath Chea, 46, at an apartment in Suang Luang district on Wednesday.

The arrests followed the apprehension of Dara Heng, 32, on Tuesday. All were charged with conspiracy of theft, said Pol Col Archayon Kraithong, deputy chief of the Tourist Police.

Mr Heng and Ms Kunther were also charged with entering the country illegally, and Mr Te was charged with harbouring illegal aliens, he added.

The roundup came after Alisa Senawet told BTS skytrain authorities that her iPhone was stolen from her shoulder bag at the Victory Monument station on Tuesday.

Authorities used footage from the CCTV security cameras to identify Mr Heng as the possible culprit, and to locate the man. He was later apprehended at the Siam BTS station, carrying Ms Alisa's stolen phone.

Mr Heng admitted his crime, confessed that he had three accomplices, and revealed the gang's hideout, police said.
