UPDATE: 1 killed by Songkhla bomb

A former border patrol policeman was killed and six other people injured when a motorcycle bomb exploded in Songkhla’s Nathawee district on Friday morning.

The explosion occurred at a teashop in front of Pithan Panich Company in tambon Nathawee municipality about 7am, killing Pol Sen.Sgt.Maj Chamras Thongkate, 67, a retired border patrol policeman, police said.

Six other people were injured by the explosion and were taken to Songkhla Nakarin hospital. Three were reported to be in a critical condition

They are Pol Snr Sgt Maj Veera Pongkaew, Komsan Auisakul and Sompop Saowaneepitak.

The three slightly wounded people are named as Dusit Manthatu, Jai Sangkhao and Thanisak Yichin.

Police said they had detained four men suspected to have involved in the motorcycle bombing, for questioning.

It was earlier reported two people were killed and seven injured. Police amended the figures.
