Bangkok Hospital Phuket says the number of patients seeking breast enhancement has been rising by 20-30% a year, with 90% of the patients being foreigners.
The hospital currently performs the procedures on three patients a day on average but it expects more patients after the Asean Economic Community is formed in 2015, said Vitoon Visutsereewong, director of the hospital's Aesthetic Center.
He said breast augmentation was popular as foreign tourists were quite confident in the services in Thailand.
As well, costs of medical procedures in Thailand are two-thirds to one-half as much as those in developed countries. At Bangkok Hospital Phuket, part of the country's largest private hospital chain, breast augmentation packages range from 125,000 to 170,000 baht.
The hospital on Friday staged a live surgery workshop for medical staff from countries across Asia Pacific on breast augmentation using Contour Profile implants.
The implants are now the preferred choice among patients because the procedure has minimal side effects and requires only one night in the hospital.
