Boosting body skin

Your body skin needs just as much pampering as your face

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

There are so many facial skincare products on the market, promising to lighten the skin, reduce wrinkles, fight blemishes and even turn back the clock. But what about your body?

Burt’s Bees Naturally Nourishing Milk & Honey Body Lotion offers high moisturisation for dry skin.

While many technologies have advanced to the point that we can ask the doctor to take a decade off the face, body skin is a bit tricker to rejuvenate, mostly because it covers a wider area. Many women invest a great deal in making sure their face looks its best, without paying much attention to the body skin. When out in harsh sunlight, a lot of women shield their face using their hand and arm, although in reality the face, usually with make-up and skincare, probably won't suffer as much from the Sun as the bare arm.

The body needs proper care, too. After all, while you can put on so many products to conceal imperfections on your face, with the body it is not as easy. Putting make-up on your body skin will just end up in messy streaks on your clothes.

The area that is most likely neglected is the back of the neck, which, if you have short hair or tie your hair up, is exposed to sunlight a lot. This area, too, needs sunscreen and soothing after a long day in the Sun. When you apply something on your face, spare a few drops for your neck to make sure the skin looks just as good as the face. Having a bright face and a dark neck will just make you look strange.

Vaseline Healthy White SPF 30 PA++ Serum offers both moisturisation and Sun protection.

The areas of our body that are most prone to dryness are the lower legs, arms, and thighs, and they have to shoulder the daily burden of rubbing with clothes, being exposed to sunlight and touching dirt. Adding a protective layer by using a good moisturiser will equip the skin with enough strength to remain healthy and beautiful.

An oil massage every now and then can also help soften and add moisture to the skin, while weekly exfoliation helps remove dead cells and dirt for a clearer appearance.

The key to having healthy skin is to choose the right product for you. This could mean getting the right consistency - more watery if your skin needs just moderate moisturisation, or a bit creamier if your skin is parched. Applying the lotion immediately after shower, when the skin is still moist, makes it more effective. Another tip is to choose a soap or body wash that doesn't make the skin feel dry, or one that contains moisturiser.

Body lotions don't have to be expensive - moderately priced ones work just as well. It is better to buy an inexpensive one and apply a generous amount than to invest in an expensive one and put on just a little for fear that it will run out too soon. A moisturiser with added sunscreen is also a convenient choice to give your skin moisturisation and Sun protection in one go.

Citra Ultimate White Lotion contains almond oil and avocado extract to nourish the skin.

Nivea In Shower skin conditioner adds moisture to the skin while taking a shower.
